Οι Αμερικανοί Ουίλιαμ Νορντχάους και Πολ Ρόμερ τιμήθηκαν με το βραβείο Νόμπελ Οικονομίας 2018, επειδή ενσωμάτωσαν την κλιματική αλλαγή και την τεχνολογική καινοτομία στη μακροοικονομική ανάλυση.

Χρησιμοποίησαν τη μακροοικονομική ανάλυση σε παγκόσμια κλίμακα, με σκοπό να αντιμετωπίσουν μερικά από τα μεγαλύτερα προβλήματα του πλανήτη, λέει η επιτροπή βραβείων Νόμπελ.
Το βραβείο Νόμπελ Οικονομίας, που συνοδεύεται από χρηματικό έπαθλο 9 εκατ. κορωνών Σουηδίας (1 εκατ. δολάρια), καθιερώθηκε το 1968. Δεν περιλαμβανόταν στην αρχική ομάδα των πέντε βραβείων που είχε οριστεί από τον σουηδό βιομήχανο Άλφρεντ Νόμπελ στη διαθήκη του το 1895.
